KatadataOTO – The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) previously set a sales target of at least 850 thousand, with a potential correction to 750 thousand units or 900 thousand units.

However, there is a chance Gaikindo will revise it again, considering the automotive industry's condition has not shown significant improvement.

Based on data we received from Gaikindo on Monday (11/08), the retail sales figure (distribution from dealers to consumers) for new cars in July was 62,770 units.

Compared to June, the increase was not massive, from 61,687 units, or only about 1.72 percent.

Then, when compared to the achievement in the same period last year, or July 2024, the figure dropped drastically from 75,588 units, a decrease of 16.9 percent.

When asked about the exact target figure after seeing car sales in the first half of 2025, Gaikindo was still reluctant to speak further.

“A projection revision could be made. Let's wait for the coming months,” said Jongkie Sugiarto, Chairman I of Gaikindo, when contacted by KatadataOTO on Monday.

Looking at retail data from Gaikindo, in the January-July 2025 period, car sales in Indonesia were 453,278 units.

Car sales had surged to a peak of 76,582 units throughout March 2025. But it did not last long as they plummeted back to 57,031 units.

The figure gradually improved in the following periods, starting from 61,307 units in May, 61,687 units in June, and finally 62,770 units throughout July.

GIIAS 2025 also does not seem to have contributed significantly to boosting sales. According to Gaikindo, the exhibition was indeed not focused on vehicle sales.

However, there is still the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week or GJAW 2025 which is said to focus on year-end sales programs. It is hoped that this can re-stimulate public purchasing power.
