KatadataOTO – The one-way system was finally implemented at KM 70 of the Jakarta – Cikampek toll road up to KM 188 of the Cipali toll road. This measure was taken around 11:30 AM WIB, earlier than the scheduled 2:00 PM WIB.

The one-way system was implemented based on vehicle Traffic Counting that has exceeded the VCR Ratio parameter. This also includes monitoring from CCTV and officers in the field.

“If the contraflow radar at KM 50 reaches 5500 vehicles per hour, a one-lane contraflow will be implemented. Then if it reaches 6400 units for one consecutive hour, we will implement a two-lane contraflow, and up to a third lane at 7400 units for one consecutive hour,” said Police Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps, as reported by Antara some time ago.

This policy also means that vehicles heading to Jakarta will be diverted to the Cikopo – Palimanan Toll Gate and continue their journey via arterial roads.

It should be noted that the implementation of the one-way system is situational and at the discretion of the police. Therefore, travelers are advised to monitor traffic through various sources, including Google Maps.

It is important to know that the one-way system is one of the main scenarios used by the police to manage traffic congestion that usually occurs during the homecoming exodus. This measure has been implemented in previous years and is considered quite effective.

This is because road capacity increases and vehicles can travel faster than without traffic engineering.

Not only the one-way system, the police are also taking various other steps to overcome traffic congestion. This includes operating toll roads functionally so that the public can have more route options.

Operating toll roads functionally also has a positive impact because the concentration of traffic density can be more evenly distributed. Thus, severe congestion can be avoided.

However, travelers are expected to remain cautious while driving and prioritize safety over speed. Drivers are also advised to rest at the provided rest areas if they feel tired.

This is important to avoid traffic accidents that frequently occur.
