KatadataOTO – The Transportation Agency has revealed it will dismantle the monorail pillars in the Rasuna Said area. The activity is planned to take place on January 14, 2016.

The dismantling will be carried out at night so it is not expected to disturb residents' activities. This is because a number of heavy equipment will be used, closing parts of the road.

The dismantling is at night because the traffic is light. But from when to when and for how long, that depends on the Bina Marga Agency which is executing it,” said Syafrin Liputo, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), as reported by Antara some time ago.

During the work, they will implement traffic engineering. Thus, it is hoped that severe congestion will not occur.

“During the work, heavy equipment will be in the slow lane and traffic will be diverted to the fast lane, which will be open as normal,” he later stated.

As for the monorail pillars to be dismantled along Jalan Rasuna Said, there are 109 of them. It is estimated that one pillar will take one day to dismantle.

Siti Dinar Wenny, Head of the Data and Information Center (Kapudatin) of the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, revealed that the government has prepared a fund of Rp 100 billion to dismantle the pillars. After the dismantling of the monorail pillars along Jalan Rasuna Said, they will begin reorganizing the area, including the roads, sidewalks, and public facilities.

"After the dismantling, there will be a reorganization of the Jalan HR. Rasuna Said area, including the arrangement of roads and sidewalks, improvement of pedestrian facilities, and adjustment of supporting elements to be safer. This includes improving public street lighting," she later explained.

It should be noted that the construction of the monorail pillars in Rasuna Said, Jakarta, began in 2004. At that time, the construction was inaugurated by President Megawati Soekarnoputri as a solution to traffic congestion.

Unfortunately, construction stopped in 2007 due to funding and asset issues. Construction was briefly resumed during the era of Governor Joko Widodo in 2013 but failed due to inter-company disputes.
