KatadataOTO – The presence of the Roadworthiness and Motor Vehicle Certification Test Center (BPLJSKB) Proving Ground in Bekasi is believed to make it easier for industry players to meet the needs of the export market. This is because the facility can be used for testing with international standards.
One of the companies welcoming this facility is PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI). They have committed to maintaining the quality and safety standards of their vehicles by utilizing this testing site.
Moreover, the Proving Ground has been designed to meet the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ASEAN MRA) standards. Therefore, all its test results can be recognized by Southeast Asian countries.
Thus, vehicle type testing no longer needs to be conducted in the export destination country, which previously caused cost constraints and technical export barriers.
“Previously, exported models had to be tested first in the destination country, and that incurred significant costs. In addition, we also had to send personnel to provide assistance,” said Rian Erlangga, Business Strategy Division Head of PT IAMI.
The BPLJSKB Proving Ground is planned to begin operations in August 2025. The facility is expected to become the most modern vehicle testing center in Southeast Asia and a catalyst for strengthening the national automotive industry in the global supply chain.
"We hope that the presence of BPLJSKB can encourage the automotive industry to improve the quality of its products, especially in terms of safety. This is part of the government's effort to create an automotive industry ecosystem," said Yusuf Nugroho, Director of Road Transportation Facilities and Safety at the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.
It should be noted that Isuzu has been one of the exporters of commercial vehicles. The number is also not insignificant.
Based on Gaikindo data, Isuzu has produced at least 15,918 units, an increase of 1,800 units from the previous year's 14,118 units.
Of that total, 4,736 units have been exported to several countries. That figure grew by 935 units compared to the first semester of 2024, which was only 3,801 units.
With this facility, it is not impossible that the number of exports could be greater in the future.
