Jakarta's odd-even policy on January 8, 2025, remains a mainstay for reducing traffic congestion in the Capital City.

KatadataOTO – Jakarta's odd-even policy is once again being implemented by the government to reduce the traffic congestion that commonly occurs in the Capital City. Through this restriction, it is hoped that vehicle flow can be better controlled.
This rule is considered quite effective in reducing the population of vehicles in operation. This is because the public must match their license plates with the date to avoid being ticketed.
Today, Wednesday (08/01), it is the turn for even-plated cars to pass freely on dozens of main roads. Meanwhile, odd-numbered vehicles must wait until the restriction ends.
To ensure mobility is not disrupted, the public is encouraged to use public transportation as an alternative option. The government has provided various choices such as TransJakarta, LRT, MRT, and KRL with affordable fares.
It should be noted that the government only implements the Jakarta odd-even policy in the morning and afternoon. This means the public can still use their vehicles for activities at other specific times.
Not only that, the government also provides several alternative routes that can be used by cars with non-compliant plates. However, these are detours, so the travel time will be longer.
In addition, some vehicles are also given exemptions and are not affected by the Jakarta odd-even policy. One of these is electric cars, whose development is currently being promoted by the central government.
In addition to deploying officers, the police also utilize technology to monitor traffic. From Static to Mobile ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement) will be deployed while the traffic management scheme is in place.
All violations will be subject to a fine of IDR 500,000. This rule is in accordance with article 287 of Law No. 12 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).
To make the Jakarta odd-even policy more effective, the police are implementing a contraflow system on the inner-city toll road, effective from km 0+200 (Cawang) to km 7+200 (Semanggi) from 06:00 AM to 10:00 AM (WIB).
The DKI Jakarta government is also implementing traffic management schemes in several locations to support MRT construction. Therefore, the public is expected to adjust their travel schedules.
