KatadataOTO – To overcome the traffic congestion that often occurs in the Capital City, the Metro Jaya Regional Police plans to form a Congestion Busting Team. This step is expected to reduce public pressure during rush hours.

Thus, in the future, the Metro Jaya Regional Police will not only be able to rely on the odd-even traffic scheme to speed up traffic flow.

“I have ordered the formation of a congestion busting team,” said Police Inspector General Karyoto, Chief of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, as reported by Antara (11/02).

He added that the public is actually fed up with the congestion, which is evident from the many drivers honking their horns. Ironically, he sees that congestion now also occurs on Saturdays and Sundays.

“On Saturdays and Sundays, the vehicle volume in Jakarta decreases by more than 50 percent because most employees in Jakarta live in agglomeration areas such as Depok, Bekasi, and Tangerang, so it's rather strange if it's congested on Saturdays and Sundays,” said Karyoto.

He also revealed that his party will later collaborate with the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) and the Samapta Bhayangkara (Sabhara).

“Hopefully, with collaboration, the results can be more optimal. Usually, the experts in managing traffic are members of the Traffic Corps, but I will add Sabhara and Brimob members when patrolling during rush hours,” he added.

Meanwhile, AKBP Argo Wiyono, Deputy Director of Traffic for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, revealed that the Congestion Busting Team will be on duty at points displayed on the Traffic Management Center or TMC.

Argo also explained that the Congestion Busting Team will consist of around 60 – 80 personnel. This number of members is believed to be sufficient to break down traffic congestion.

"They will use trail bikes so that congested routes can be quickly cleared thanks to the presence of this team," he then affirmed.

Regarding the difference with the Ditlantas personnel who usually manage traffic on the highways, Argo mentioned that the difference lies in their functions and duties.

Unfortunately, it has not yet been announced when the team will be formed and become operational.
