KatadataOTO – The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is making various preparations to welcome the homecoming period for Lebaran 2025. This is because millions of people are predicted to travel to their hometowns.
They have also conducted a number of surveys to determine the number of people who will be traveling during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.
According to data shared on the official Ministry of Transportation website, 23 percent or 33.69 million people will travel home using private cars.
Then, 16.9 percent or 24.76 million will take the bus. Meanwhile, 16.1 percent or 23.58 million people will rely on trains.
Meanwhile, 13.5 percent or 19.77 million people will use airplanes for the 2025 Lebaran homecoming. Lastly, 8.7 percent or 12.74 million people will use motorcycles.
Looking at the data above, various preparations must be made by the Ministry of Transportation. This is to provide a sense of comfort and security to the public.
“We all have a great responsibility to ensure smoothness, security, comfort, and safety,” said Dudy Purwagandhi, the Minister of Transportation, on the official Ministry of Transportation website, Monday (10/03).
Dudy also called for coordination and cooperation among stakeholders, followed by an improvement in the safety and security of Lebaran 2025 transportation.
Not to forget the provision of homecoming information and safety campaigns, as well as the provision of traffic data, CCTV, and free homecoming programs.
“The 2025 Lebaran transportation is one of the Ministry of Transportation's strategic activities that serves as a benchmark for the success of the transportation sector. Providing the best service for the community is our priority,” he continued.
On the other hand, the implementation of the WFA (Work From Anywhere) policy was also discussed, as it is considered capable of reducing traffic congestion during the 2025 Lebaran homecoming season.
He explained that through two surveys conducted, the results showed that with the implementation of WFA, the surge of travelers was not as drastic as when it was not in effect.
“In the initial survey before WFA, we saw a surge on D-3. With WFA in effect, there is a spread in community departures,” Dudy stated.
Meanwhile, there was a surge on D-3, but it was not as drastic as it would be without WFA. At that time, it was projected that 16.8 million people would be traveling.
“Then, using the WFA scheme, it becomes only 12.1 million people,” Dudy affirmed.
It should be noted that there are a number of traffic engineering schemes that will be implemented by the police, for example, one-way and contraflow systems.
