KatadataOTO – The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) plans to adjust the fares for online motorcycle taxis. One of the proposals is that fares will reportedly increase by eight to 15 percent.

Related parties such as GoTo Gojek Tokopedia and Grab are likely to be affected. Because the fare increase could potentially reduce the number of orders from consumers.

Considering the impact of the online motorcycle taxi fare adjustment, the Ministry of Transportation stated that this will be done in-depth and is still under review.

“In drafting regulations, we are very careful and consider various aspects to accommodate the interests of all parties,” said Aan Suhanan, Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, in an official statement quoted on Friday (07/04).

He said that the Ministry of Transportation is committed to involving all business actors, including app providers, driver associations, and relevant experts.

“Reports about the eight to 15 percent increase in online motorcycle taxi fares are still in the in-depth study phase and are not a final decision,” he emphasized.

The approach to relevant stakeholders is expected to ensure that the online motorcycle taxi fare adjustment regulation is fair to all parties.

On the other hand, the issue of the 20 percent commission fee, which is currently in the spotlight, is also being studied in detail from various perspectives.

“We are committed to continuing to communicate transparently with the public regarding the progress of this study,” he emphasized.

Aan stressed that the adjustment of online motorcycle taxi fares and the commission fee issue, which driver partners have reportedly complained about, will continue to be carefully considered.

He also urged the public and other related parties to wait for official information and announcements from the Ministry of Transportation.

“We are conducting a comprehensive study to find a fair formula for the entire online transportation ecosystem,” he said.

For your information, the previous online motorcycle taxi fare adjustment was planned to be an increase of up to 15 percent in various regions.

However, the amount will be adjusted according to predetermined zones. This is still in the discussion stage before it is implemented.

The fare increase is one of the responses to the demands of online motorcycle taxi drivers for a revision of passenger fares.

So far, online motorcycle taxi fares are legally regulated by the Minister of Transportation Decree Number KP 564/2022.
