KatadataOTO – Various policies will be implemented by the government in 2026. Such as the mandatory Biodiesel B50.

The regulation has apparently drawn many responses. Especially from commercial vehicle manufacturers.

“B50 is a continuation of the current B40, so it's also being discussed in the association. Because these Euro 4 products have to readjust to the characteristics of Biodiesel B50,” opened Aji Jaya, Sales and Marketing Director of KTB in Surabaya, East Java some time ago.

According to Aji, President Prabowo Subianto and his ministers are currently conducting tests on Biodiesel B50.

Mitsubishi Fuso is also waiting for the results of the test. To see whether there are any side effects for the engine.

“If the test results show no issues for Euro 4 technology, there's actually no issue. But on the other hand, if the results are not good, all brand-holding agents (APM) must make adjustments to their products to ensure compatibility,” continued Aji.

It was further mentioned that the government is conducting Biodiesel B50 tests in collaboration with several parties. Such as members of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

Aji claimed that they also took part in this by providing a Mitsubishi Fuso Canter to be tested with Biodiesel B50.

“We will wait for the results (of the Biodiesel B50 test),” Aji affirmed.

As a reminder, the mandatory Biodiesel B50 is planned to be implemented in the second half of 2026.

Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), explained that Indonesia currently still has to import diesel fuel. The amount is quite large, ranging from 4.9 million to 5 million tons per year.

Therefore, with the implementation of B50 in 2026, President Prabowo's aide believes that fuel imports, especially diesel, can be reduced.

“Because the mix of domestic production and bioethanol can already meet the demand,” said Bahlil on a different occasion.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) noted that the use of Biodiesel from 2020–2025 has had a positive impact.

Take for example the foreign exchange savings of up to 40.71 billion US dollars. So this policy is considered appropriate to be implemented.

With the implementation of B50 in the second half of 2026, the potential for additional savings is projected to reach 10.84 billion US dollars. This can be achieved in just one year.
