KatadataOTO – The police revealed that the action of a patrol escort for a car with the license plate RI 36 pointing at other road users should not have happened. This is because all escort officers have received training to work more optimally.
Therefore, they will conduct an investigation regarding the video to determine the type of violation before processing it.
“For escorts, we definitely train and test all officers. They are not allowed to point arrogantly like that,” said Brigadier General Raden Slamet Santoso, Director of Law Enforcement (Dirgakkum) of the National Police Traffic Corps, as reported by Antara (10/01).
However, he admitted that he has not yet received an official report regarding the video.
“For now, I have not received a report from the Head of the Escort Sub-directorate. The officers could be from the National Police Traffic Corps or the Metro Jaya Regional Police, so it must be confirmed first,” he asserted.
It should be noted that a video suddenly went viral on the social media platform X, showing a patrol escort officer pointing at a taxi driver. At the time, he was escorting and clearing a path for a car with the license plate RI 36 in heavy traffic.
However, his path was blocked by a taxi that was about to change lanes. As a result, the officer had to overtake from another position and then pointed at the taxi driver.
It should be noted that there are several vehicles that receive priority, requiring other road users to pull over to give way. This is regulated in Article 134 of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.
The following is a list of priority vehicles
Then, in Article 135 paragraph 1, it is explained that vehicles with right-of-way as referred to in Article 134 must be escorted by officers of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia and/or use red or blue signal lights and sirens.
Furthermore, in paragraph two, it is stated that officers of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia will provide security if they are aware of road users as referred to in paragraph 1.
Then, the third paragraph explains that traffic signal devices and traffic signs do not apply to vehicles that have right-of-way as referred to in Article 134.
