Seven Motorcyclists Struck by Malioboro Train: Here's the Chronology

KatadataOTO – An accident involving a train (KA) has happened again. This time it occurred in Magetan, Mangge Village, Barat District, Magetan, East Java, on Monday (19/04).

The incident involved the Malioboro train Express on the Purwokerto-Malang route and seven motorcycles.

“At 12:49 PM WIB, the Train Operations Control Center received information from the Malioboro Express train driver that they had hit a motorcycle at the crossing,” said Rokhmad Makin Zainul, Public Relations Manager of Daop 7 Madiun, to Antara.

Based on information from the scene, this accident involved two trains, namely the Malioboro Express and the Matarmaja.

Then there were seven two-wheeled vehicles crossing at an official crossing guarded by an officer.

The accident began when the Matarmaja train passed through the JPL 08 crossing first. After that, the crossing gate was opened.

However, from the opposite direction, the KA 170 Malioboro Express on the Purwokerto–Malang route appeared, which was also about to pass through the crossing at nearly the same time.

Unfortunately, when the gate was opened, several residents on motorcycles crossed and were hit by the Malioboro train.

As a result of the incident, several two-wheeled vehicles were wrecked due to the hard impact with the train.

Then, several people were known to have been injured. It was even reported that four people died.

“Currently, KAI, along with related parties, is conducting an investigation to get a complete picture of the incident's chronology,” he said.

Meanwhile, joint officers along with residents tried to help the victims. They were taken to the nearest hospital from the scene.

According to reports, the deceased victims were taken to dr. Sayidiman Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Magetan. While the injured were evacuated to dr. Efram Harsana Air Force Hospital (RSAU) at Iswajudi Air Base.

Meanwhile, officers from the Magetan Police immediately secured the scene. They conducted a further crime scene investigation.

The police also questioned a number of witnesses who saw the Malioboro train accident today firsthand.

So, until now, the authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the incident.

On the other hand, a video of the accident has spread widely on social media. It then drew many responses from netizens.
