Yamaha states that the demand for spare parts is increasing due to the decreasing demand for new motorcycles in Indonesia.

KatadataOTO – The new motorcycle market in Indonesia is not doing well. In April 2025, the condition worsened even more.
According to data from AISI (Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association), last month only 406,690 units were delivered from factories to dealers, or wholesales.
The number above is a significant drop compared to the previous month. Considering that in March 2025, it reached 541,684 units.
In fact, according to records, the new motorcycle wholesale performance in April was the lowest throughout 2025.
Of course, this condition is regrettable to many parties. However, on the other hand, the decline in new motorcycle wholesales has turned out to be a blessing.
As felt in the spare parts sales segment. It is said there is an increase in demand for two-wheeled vehicle spare parts.
“The impact on consumers is that they end up postponing vehicle purchases or other consumptive things,” said Antonius Widiantoro, Asst & Marketing Part Operation Division YIMM (Yamaha Indonesia Motor Mfg) when met in Bandung, West Java.
Anton explained that this condition makes people prefer to maintain the two-wheeled vehicles they already own.
As a result, the demand for Yamaha spare parts has increased. It's a blessing for the manufacturer amidst difficult circumstances.
“So it's like this, instead of buying a new vehicle, I might as well maintain my old one,” continued Anton.
Thus, even though the demand for new motorcycles has decreased, the sales of Yamaha spare parts have actually increased.
It's a breath of fresh air as the automotive industry faces a considerable storm in early 2025.
“Ultimately, consumers have a stronger desire to maintain their motorcycles. This impacts the after-sales, service, and spare parts business,” Anton affirmed.
Unfortunately, Anton was reluctant to specify the figures for the increase in spare part demand experienced by Yamaha during the first four months of 2025.
“However, it is apparent that the after-sales business is currently growing,” Anton added.
For your information, several factors are hindering new motorcycle sales in the country. Starting from the implementation of the surcharge on PKB (Motor Vehicle Tax) and BBNKB (Vehicle Title Transfer Fee).
Then, the Indonesian and global economic conditions have not improved over time.
Furthermore, the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar is also a culprit for the further decline in new motorcycle sales.
