The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is ready to add more buses for the free homecoming program for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr 2025.

KatadataOTO – The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta plans to provide a free mudik (homecoming) for its residents. Interestingly, they plan to increase the number of bus units by 21 percent to 293 buses for the exodus and 228 for the return trip.
With this, it is hoped that people who want to travel to their hometowns will find it easier. Especially since last year, the interest in the free mudik program was quite high.
“Last year, many people hoped to join the free mudik, but because the quota was full, they could not be accommodated. Therefore, for Eid 2025, we are increasing the bus capacity,” said Syafrin Liputo, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, as reported by Antara (26/02).
Not only that, the DKI Provincial Government is also preparing a fleet of 10 trucks to transport around 600 motorcycles for residents for both the departure and return journeys. The goal is to reduce the number of travelers using two-wheeled vehicles.
“We have allocated a budget of around Rp 16 billion for the implementation of the 2025 free mudik program," he said.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, the DKI government has not yet provided detailed information on the registration requirements and departure times for both the exodus and return trips. Syafrin Liputo only stated that this policy is still being finalized.
“The decision regarding the free mudik can only be announced in mid-March. There are several prerequisites that registrants must meet," he later added.
This is because the free mudik program is still in the auction process by the DKI Provincial Government's Goods and Services Procurement Agency. After that process is complete, preparations and the registration announcement can be made.
He also explained that there will be several requirements to register for this year's free mudik. However, they will not be much different from the previous year's implementation.
Last year, prospective participants had to include several administrative documents such as a Family Card (Kartu Keluarga), DKI ID card (KTP), and Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) (if bringing a motorcycle). Each registrant could add a maximum of three family members from the same Family Card.
After successfully registering, prospective participants were required to perform a verification by bringing photocopies of the administrative documents to the nearest verification location.
The free mudik program is indeed quite effective in reducing traffic congestion during Eid. This initiative also reduces the occurrence of accidents, especially for motorcycle users.
