KatadataOTO – The National Police Traffic Corps immediately conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) related to the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate (GT). This was done in collaboration with the West Java Regional Police.

It involved the TAA (Traffic Accident Analysis) and TAA RC (Traffic Accident Research Center) teams. They claimed to have found several interesting findings.

“After a thorough investigation of the existing evidence, we noted that on the road factor, no tire brake marks were found at all,” said Police Commissioner Dodi Daryanto, Head of the Audit Sub-directorate of the National Police Traffic Corps, on their official website.

He revealed that the fact above indicates the water gallon truck driver did not attempt to brake before the fatal incident occurred.

This is suspected to be due to a failure in the braking system, which caused the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate on Tuesday (04/02) night.

“This will be material for further investigation, especially to verify if the braking system was faulty,” he said.

Dodit explained that the findings above cannot yet be concluded as the cause of the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate.

Considering the crime scene investigation and analysis are still ongoing, more in-depth results will be announced soon after all examinations are complete.

“We are committed to ensuring this incident is well understood. We will continue to work hard to improve traffic safety throughout Indonesia,” Dodi affirmed.

Indeed, previously, many parties suspected the accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate was triggered by a water gallon truck experiencing brake failure.

Before the incident, this large vehicle was traveling from the direction of Ciawi towards Jakarta. Then the brakes failed right at the toll gate.

“It is suspected that the vehicle experienced brake failure, causing it to hit a line of cars that were making transactions,” said Police Commissioner Yudiono, Head of the Bogor City Police Traffic Unit.
