KatadataOTO – Besides canceling Car Free Day, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency has confirmed it will implement traffic diversions during the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day ceremony at the Merdeka Palace.

This step is being taken to support the smooth running of the state event. Syafrin Liputo, Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, even said that he has already coordinated with the RI Independence Day committee and the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) regarding these traffic arrangements.

“We are continuously coordinating with our colleagues from Paspampres and the RI Independence Day Committee to provide full support for the implementation of the flag ceremony. This includes parking arrangements, as directed,” Syafrin affirmed, as reported by Antara (07/08).

According to him, traffic diversions will be implemented to avoid congestion during the flag ceremony. Unfortunately, he could not yet specify which roads will be affected as it is still under discussion with the relevant parties.

“The number of personnel will also certainly be adjusted according to the operational plan later, as it is still under discussion. Once it is finalized, we will fully support its implementation,” Syafrin later said.

Besides traffic diversions, he will also focus on people who park illegally. His party has prepared tow trucks to manage vehicles around the State Palace area.

“So that no one parks illegally in certain spots that are crucial for mobility,” Syafrin emphasized.

It should be noted that the 80th RI Independence Day commemoration ceremony will be held at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in the morning and afternoon.

Besides the ceremony, there will also be a People's Festival held at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, from morning until night.

Meanwhile, outside Monas, an Independence Carnival will take place involving ministries/agencies, the TNI, Polri, Danantara, and BUMN on the evening of August 17.

Each of these institutions will hold a parade starting from the Monas area, proceeding along Thamrin and Sudirman streets to the Semanggi Interchange, using decorated floats while showcasing their flagship programs.

The large number of events is certain to cause congestion, so the public is expected to readjust their travel schedules. It is advisable to use public transportation to maintain mobility.
