However, both parties were reluctant to speak further about the possibility of cooperation in the production of the eVitara or the Urban Cruiser EV.

“If we talk about collaboration, there are certainly many stakeholders. First is the industry itself, second is the government, and third are the suppliers,” said Resha Kusuma Atmaja, GM of Marketing and Planning at PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), when asked about the possibility of collaboration on the same occasion.

PT TAM has confirmed that the Urban Cruiser will be locally assembled. The sequence is the same as the bZ4X, entering Indonesia as a completely built-up import first before being produced here.

Currently, Toyota claims to be focusing on various other preparations before the launch of the Urban Cruiser. Such as the availability of spare parts and financing options for the electric car.

Cross-Brand Collaboration

In Indonesia, several Toyota models are produced by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, such as the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) Calya, as a form of cooperation between the two parties.

Meanwhile, in their home country of Japan, Suzuki and Toyota have rebadged vehicles several times. There, the Suzuki Ertiga has a Toyota twin, the Rumion.

A similar collaboration might be implemented domestically for the Suzuki eVitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser. However, this depends on the principal's decision, and both brands are not yet willing to detail the possibility.
