BYD sales in Indonesia are projected to exceed 50,000 units during the 2024-2025 period, with local assembly becoming mandatory this year.
The presence of the BYD Atto 1 proved to boost BYD's sales. Their achievements jumped to 9,732 units in October 2025 and 8,243 units the following month.
In the January-November 2025 period, BYD's sales were recorded at 39,289 units, securing a market share of 5.3 percent.
This made BYD the third best-selling car brand in Indonesia in November 2025, right behind Toyota and Daihatsu.
Additionally, their premium sub-brand, Denza, was introduced. With just one model, the Denza D9 contributed sales of 7,047 units.
As part of the agreement for receiving import incentives, manufacturers must then begin to locally assemble a certain number of their chosen vehicle lineup.
This rule is stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Number 6 of 2023.
The regulation governs the Guidelines and Governance for Granting Import Incentives and/or Delivery of Four-Wheeled Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles in the Context of Accelerating Investment.
More details regarding the local assembly obligation are also mentioned in Article 2. The following are the provisions.
“Business Actors can be given incentives for Four-Wheeled Battery-Based Electric Vehicles in CKD form, for a certain amount to be assembled in Indonesia with a Local Content Level (TKDN) achievement of at least 20% (twenty percent) and at most less than 40% (forty percent), within the incentive utilization period,” the regulation states.
BYD will eventually have to assemble vehicles corresponding to the number of imported units sold to consumers. The figure is therefore around 60 thousand units.
