Chinese Car Sales Projected to Surpass Japan This Year

The prohibition of flush or hidden electric door handles on Chinese cars will revolutionize vehicle design.
The hope is that this can help reduce fatalities when vehicles are involved in accidents. Then the process of evacuating the driver and passengers from the cabin will no longer be difficult.
From a design perspective, these modern door handles add to the aesthetic of the car's exterior. They are also claimed to help reduce the drag coefficient.
However, problems related to these modern-style door handles are still frequently heard. On October 13 in Chengdu, a passenger in a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra involved in an accident died because they could not open the car door.
Involving the same Xiaomi SU7 Ultra model, a similar scenario occurred in the Tongling area, China.
“The interior door handles use a button that cannot operate when the car loses power. The mechanical door handle was not visible to the passengers,” said an internal source from The Paper regarding the accident in Tongling.
On the other hand, automotive observers have also highlighted the often-unrealized latent danger of electric door handles.
“It is very dangerous in terms of evacuating the driver and passengers from the vehicle,” said Bebin Djuana, an automotive observer, to KatadataOTO some time ago.
Although this is still just a possibility and there have been no similar cases in Indonesia, it deserves the attention of the relevant parties.
If the rule in China officially takes effect in 2027, it is possible that the design of Chinese cars as we know them today will change significantly.
Especially for units that will be exported from China, rather than being locally assembled in Indonesia or modified according to the destination country.
