KatadataOTO – The presence of Chinese electric cars is said to have a negative impact on the automotive industry. As has been happening in Germany recently.

Citing Carscoops on Tuesday (02/09), the automotive industry in the Land of a Thousand Castles has begun to falter.

It was mentioned that in the last year, the number of workers in Germany has shrunk by up to seven percent.

"Revealed by the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, around 51,000 jobs were lost from the automotive industry from June 2024 to June 2025," the report wrote.

A number of factors are touted to be shaking up the businesses of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.

Like many four-wheeled vehicle manufacturers in Germany, they are finding it difficult to compete with Chinese electric cars.

The transition to EVs is forcing manufacturers to incur substantial costs. This puts great pressure on them.

"German brands are struggling to innovate as quickly as Chinese brands. And they have not yet been able to significantly reduce (production) costs," the report continued.

The situation became more difficult after Donald Trump, the President of the United States, set quite high import tariffs for a number of countries.

This policy turned out to have a negative impact on the automotive industry in Germany. Considering that Uncle Sam's country is still one of their most important markets.

"It was revealed that exports of cars and spare parts from Germany to the US fell by 8.6 percent," the report emphasized.

Of course, the conditions faced by business actors in Germany are very concerning. Considering the country is one of the world's automotive giants.

Indonesia Experiences a Similar Fate

On the other hand, the same situation is also happening in Indonesia. Chinese electric cars are flooding the domestic four-wheeled vehicle market.
