Getting to Know Chery's Hybrid Car Options in Indonesia

Hybrid cars are showing stable growth in Indonesia, with PHEVs gaining popularity thanks to the presence of Chinese brands.
Whereas in 2024, PHEV wholesales only reached 136 units. In 2025, the number rose sharply and held a market share of 0.7 percent.
Japanese brands like Toyota and Mitsubishi had previously sold PHEVs. However, their prices were Rp 1 billion and up.
Over time, Chinese car brands like Chery brought in the Tiggo 8 CSH for the first time, a seven-seater Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) PHEV.
This became an interesting development because the price could be pushed down to the Rp 500 million range, 50 percent lower than its competitors.
Geely also took a similar step by introducing the Starray EM-i, which can accommodate five passengers.
Price seems to play an important role in popularizing PHEVs in the country. Although it is a relatively new technology, the variety of models from different brands becomes a separate consideration for consumers.
