KatadataOTO – Chinese manufacturer, Great Wall Motor or GWM, is reportedly preparing another retro-style product line like the Ora series.

But interestingly, this time the new GWM car has a familiar appearance. At a glance, it is reminiscent of the Volkswagen Type 1 or VW Beetle.

It should be noted, the VW Beetle is also known as the VW kodok in Indonesia. That model was produced in the period 1938 to 2003.

Leaked photos of GWM's latest retro-style car design were revealed by Li Fei, a Chief Engineer of Drive-By-Wire Chassis at GWM.

In his post on Weibo, Li Fei revealed that the presence of this new product is not just an addition to the existing series but a new product and series from GWM.

He also confirmed that the arrival of GWM's new brand is getting closer. It seems they intend to launch the series soon in 2026.

“From its exterior design, this is very different from GWM's other five sub-brands. It does not follow the Haval SUV route, the Tank off-road style, the Wey-style driving luxury, the trendy concept of Ora, or the pickup truck characteristics of GWM Poer,” wrote Li Fei as quoted from Carnewschina, Sunday (21/12).

The Haval, Tank, and Ora series have started to be marketed in Indonesia. Ora is a line that emphasizes a retro-futuristic concept with an elegant and minimalist appearance.

Meanwhile, the latest GWM product that was recently uploaded looks more like a classic car with many chromatic-colored ornaments on the rear bumper.

GWM is still keeping the technical specifications of its newest model under wraps. However, there is a chance it will be offered with various powertrain options, including a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

For your information, the lineup of GWM cars sold in Indonesia includes the Haval Jolion, Haval H6, Tank 500, Tank 300, Tank 300 Diesel, and Ora 03.

The GWM Tank 300 Diesel is their first conventional engine model in Indonesia. The other Haval and Tank series already feature hybrid technology.

Meanwhile, the GWM Ora 03 is the electric car option, offered with a price tag of Rp 379 million and up, launched at the GIIAS 2025 event.
