The third-generation Nissan Leaf has been officially introduced for the US market first, making it a new rival to the Hyundai Kona EV.
KatadataOTO – Nissan Leaf's third generation is getting a major overhaul. The model, previously known as a hatchback, has now changed its identity to a compact SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle).
For context, the Nissan Leaf is one of the pioneers of electric cars in the global market, including in Indonesia. However, its existence has dimmed, especially after many Chinese brands flooded the Indonesian automotive market.
However, the newest Leaf is expected to offer a new option for consumers who want a compact electric car.
“The Nissan Leaf plays an important role in the plan titled Re:Nissan. It offers impressive performance, a great design, and capable technology,” said Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO of Nissan in an official statement, quoted Wednesday (18/05).
The most noticeable change is seen on the fascia. At a glance, the lights resemble the hammerhead concept from Toyota's latest lineup.
The DRL (Daytime Running Light) at the front has a checkered pattern. Then, the white Nissan emblem is placed in the center against a black background.
Moving to the side, the rear door handle is now placed on the side window trim, similar to the Honda HR-V. The previous version used a conventional model.
The most visible change is at the rear. With a two-tone color scheme, the trunk area is given a striking black color, complete with an embossment that reads Nissan.
