KatadataOTO – Indonesia is beginning to enter a transition period from conventional vehicles to BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles), also known as pure electric cars. Hybrid vehicles are one form of this transition.

However, there are still other steps being taken by manufacturers to help reduce exhaust emissions and make motor vehicles more environmentally friendly.

The use of high-quality lubricants suited to the vehicle's needs can help reduce vehicle exhaust emissions, which are currently considered high.

It is mentioned that the use of low-viscosity oil has been proven to increase fuel efficiency. Several manufacturers are said to have started recommending these lubricants to vehicle owners.

For your information, viscosity is the level of oil thickness. The higher the number indicated, the higher the viscosity.

Its use is adjusted to the vehicle's needs or the recommendations in the owner's manual. Some commonly used ones are SAE 0W-40, 5W-30 to 10W-40.

“In the Philippines, fuel efficiency is estimated at 5.3 percent with the use of 0W-20 engine oil for passenger vehicles. In Malaysia, it's 1.7 percent, and in Indonesia, 4.8 percent,” said Motoji Hiroki, Manager, OEM Management Japan Lubrizol at the JAMA Lube Oil Seminar 2025 at Le Meridien, Jakarta, on Monday (10/03).
