“BYD entered with its first three models, namely the Seal, Atto 3, and Dolphin. (The market share) is at 3.3 percent,” said Rachmat.

As of today, there are 54 models out of a total of 90 electric car products under Rp 800 million that contribute to EV sales figures in the country.

He believes that the existence of electric car incentives is one of the main triggers for boosting EV sales amidst various challenges.

“The market share is already 9.6 percent. And I am sure that by the end of the year it should be more than 10 percent,” he said.

Now the challenge is to maintain the incentive regulation so that it remains in effect for the long term.

Because regulatory uncertainty has the potential to cause electric car sales to plummet again, as potential consumers postpone their purchases.
