This positive trend continued into 2023, reaching 17,051 units. This was because a number of Chinese brands decided to invest and compete to offer electric vehicles at affordable prices.

Neta first entered Indonesia bringing the Neta V, priced around IDR 300 million. Then Wuling launched a new product, the BinguoEV.

Significant Surge After the Arrival of Chinese Cars

Throughout 2024, more and more Chinese electric car manufacturers arrived. One of the most famous is BYD.

BYD came, taking advantage of government subsidies for imported electric cars. Therefore, even though the units were still fully imported, the prices offered could be competitive.

Electric car wholesales in Indonesia in 2024 were 43,188 units. Finally, in 2025, that number doubled to 103,931 units, securing a 12.9 percent market share.

The presence of Chinese cars, especially BYD, seemed to invigorate the domestic electric car market throughout 2025.

However, this year BYD will face challenges and may be forced to raise its electric car prices because the import incentives appear to be abolished.
