A Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car struck a pedestrian and 21 motorcycles; the driver was allegedly drunk.
This means not being in a state of intoxication, illness, fatigue, or drowsiness. Because these conditions have the potential to cause harm to others, not just the driver.
There are several legal consequences for violations, as stated in article 283 of the LLAJ Law.
If a driver operates a vehicle improperly or is influenced by other conditions that cause a lack of concentration, there is a penalty of imprisonment for a maximum of three months or a fine of Rp 750 thousand.
The sensation of instant torque makes electric cars feel more powerful and responsive, but as a result, drivers must be increasingly careful and responsible when operating them.
Then from a technology standpoint, EVs are also equipped with various of the latest features. Drivers need to understand their functions to avoid mistakes and use them as needed on the road.
“If the (driver) is not sensitive, the operational process is at risk of being dangerous. Don't be proud of a high-powered electric car; it's useless if you can't control it,” said Sony Susmana, Senior Instructor at SDCI (Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia) to KatadataOTO some time ago.
Besides not driving while intoxicated, drivers, including electric car owners, need to apply a defensive driving style, which is to be patient, share, yield, and be polite.
