KatadataOTO – The presence of over-dimension and over-loading (ODOL) trucks is very concerning. They even often cause traffic accidents.

For this reason, the government is implementing various policies to take action against ODOL truck operators in the country.

"We all agree that this zero ODOL policy can no longer be waited for or postponed," said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, on the official website of the National Police Traffic Corps, Thursday (09/10).

AHY assesses that the zero ODOL policy will not harm anyone. Because it sides with the common people.

So it doesn't just side with business owners. Thus, it is believed to bring a positive impact.

"With hard work together, it is hoped that on January 1, 2027, this policy will be effectively in force," continued AHY.

Based on Korlantas data in 2024, there were 150,906 accident cases. The death toll reached 26,839 people.

From the data above, 10.5 percent of them involved freight vehicles or ODOL trucks.

Based on the data above, AHY stated that the government must take action to eradicate the presence of ODOL trucks.

However, AHY did not deny that there are still many challenges ahead. Such as high distribution costs.

Then there is weak supervision, inequality between business owners and drivers, and illegal levies in the field.

"Until there is a twisting of the narrative as if we are not siding with the drivers or the common people," said Agus.

The aide to President Prabowo Subianto explained that the government is preparing nine national action plans.

Among them are the integration of freight transport data, providing incentives and disincentives for business actors, and measuring economic and inflationary impacts

Finally, strengthening the labor aspect with legal protection for drivers. This can reduce the practice of ODOL trucks.
