KatadataOTO – The death of an online motorcycle taxi (Ojol) driver after being hit by a Brimob (Mobile Brigade Corps) Tactical Vehicle (Rantis) continues to be a topic of discussion. Especially after the perpetrators gave their testimony in public.

Bripka R, the driver of the Brimob tactical vehicle, claimed the reason for forcing his way through the road and hitting Affan Kurniawan was because they were being attacked by protesters.

This caused him and the other passengers to panic. So they drove the Brimob tactical vehicle at high speed.

However, Bripka R's reason was questioned by many parties. They considered the action unnecessary.

"If we're talking about tactical vehicles, they are difficult to drive because of their heavy weight and large blind spots," said Sony Susmana, Training Director of Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia (SDCI) to KatadataOTO, on Tuesday (02/09).

Sony explained that driving a Brimob tactical vehicle cannot be done carelessly. The person driving it needs special competence.

Such as an understanding of the vehicle. From its dimensions and weight to how to drive it.

It should be noted that Brimob tactical vehicles are equipped with thick iron plates all over the body. Then there is bulletproof glass on the windows.

However, the average Brimob tactical vehicle has very few windows, which are also small in size.

This makes it difficult for the driver to observe the surrounding conditions. And to see various objects in front or to the side.

"This tactical vehicle is like a large truck. It must be driven slowly and requires a high level of skill," Sony continued.

Furthermore, Sony explained, the driver must understand the advantages of a Brimob tactical vehicle. Such as being resistant to bullets and explosions.

Some tactical vehicles are even equipped with Run Flat Tyres (RFT). Allowing the tires to still be used when punctured.

"If you encounter protesters, there's no need to panic. Their weapons are at most rocks, wood, or iron; even if they try to set it on fire, the tactical vehicle is safe," Sony added.
