KatadataOTO – The Indonesian government continues to show its seriousness in eradicating the frequent practice of Over Dimension and Over Load (ODOL) trucks.
Most recently, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Kemenko Infra) has admitted to be drafting regulations on tariffs for logistics drivers.
“Yes, the action plan will also discuss tariffs. This means there will be fairness in the tariffs charged for logistics transportation,” said Esti Setyowati, Assistant Deputy for Land and Railway Connectivity, to Antara on Thursday (03/07).
Esti explained that this decision was made to bring a sense of fairness to both drivers and logistics service owners.
This is to minimize the practice of ODOL trucks, which often harms road users and the general public.
Moreover, the new regulation will discuss or set upper and lower tariff limits for drivers.
This way, they can guarantee income certainty and encourage the creation of an efficient and sustainable logistics ecosystem.
She also explained that the tariffs will be further regulated in an official regulation that is currently approaching the public consultation stage.
The new regulation is expected to be enacted soon so that its implementation can provide protection.
It will also provide legal certainty for all logistics transportation business actors throughout the country.
“This is almost at the public consultation stage and is expected to be enacted afterward,” Esti emphasized.
Furthermore, Kemenko Infra ensures that they are in agreement with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) in accommodating the aspirations of truck drivers.
Aan Suhanan, Director General of Land Transportation at Kemenhub, said that one of the demands from the ODOL truck protesters is the importance of protection for the transportation driver profession, which is considered not yet optimal.
“Actually, the concept of the action plan already includes protection for drivers in the transportation sector,” said Aan.
For your information, many parties have previously suggested that driver tariffs and delivery services should be regulated by the government.
