KatadataOTO – Some time ago, the DKI Jakarta provincial government (Pemprov) was intensifying emission tests for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.
However, according to data from the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), only a handful of motorcycles and cars have done so.
"In 2024, it has only reached eight percent of the total number of motorized vehicles in DKI Jakarta," said Erni Pelita Fitratunnisa, Head of the Pollution Control and Environmental Damage Division of the DKI Jakarta DLH, to Antara on Wednesday (28/05).
She also regretted the actions of drivers who were unwilling to conduct emission tests.
In fact, the obligation for vehicle emission tests is already stated in the DKI Jakarta Governor's Regulation No. 66 of 2020.
Therefore, she asked the public to comply with all existing regulations. This can help reduce the level of air pollution.
"This is our big homework (PR) on how to ask the Central Government to facilitate the areas around Jakarta," she continued.
Erni said that vehicles passing through Jakarta are also contributed by several buffer zones. Such as Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang.
So she asked the decision-makers to implement something similar to Jakarta.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has conducted free emission tests on 1,692,618 four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles from 2020 to 2024.
From the number above, 1,544,773 were cars. Then 147,845 were motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the pass rate for tested four-wheeled vehicles reached 98.2 percent. While motorcycles were at 82.3 percent.
On the other hand, to increase compliance with vehicle emission tests, the DKI Jakarta DLH claims to have prepared a number of methods.
For example, by implementing social sanctions for cars or motorcycles that do not undergo emission tests.
