KatadataOTO – Sales of cars in Indonesia experienced a decline in 2025. Based on Gaikindo data, retail sales last year amounted to 833,712 units.

That figure is down by 55,968 units or about 6.3 percent compared to last year. At that time, the national car market managed to record a figure of 889,680 units.

The decline occurred not only in retail sales, but wholesales or unit shipments from factories to dealers also experienced pressure. Throughout 2025, only 803,687 units were successfully delivered to dealers.

That number was corrected by 62,036 units or about 7.2 percent compared to the same period the previous year. At that time, vehicle manufacturers managed to record a figure of 865,723 units. Throughout 2025.

However, it cannot be denied that the 20 best-selling cars in Indonesia throughout 2025 are becoming more diverse. While Japanese manufacturers previously dominated, Chinese brands are now increasingly showing their performance.

The BYD Atto 1, for example, has successfully entered the top 10 in Indonesia. The total wholesales achieved by the model were 22,562 units, earning it the eighth position.

Similarly, the BYD M6 managed to ship 10,682 units. This electric MPV sits in the 17th position.

Meanwhile, the best-selling car in Indonesia is currently dominated by the Toyota Avanza. The model managed to improve its position after only sitting in second place last year.

The recorded wholesales for the Toyota Avanza throughout 2025 were 40,148 units. This figure is actually a significant drop compared to last year's 55,838 units.

Next is the Daihatsu Sigra, which recorded wholesales of 34,452 units. This achievement was also a correction from last year's 54,709 units.

Meanwhile, the Honda Brio is in third place with sales of 33,233 units. This is still far below last year's achievement of 51,133 units.

The Toyota Calya, which only occupied the sixth position in 2024, has now improved to take fourth place. The LCGC's wholesales amounted to 31,378 units.

The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix is a special case, as it now has to settle for fifth place with wholesales of 30,656 units. This is despite the model shipping 63,676 units when compared to last year's achievement.
