Japan ranks first as the top quality car manufacturer, according to Indonesian consumers.
KatadataOTO – Many Chinese car brands have started to enter and liven up the Indonesian automotive market. A variety of new options are offered at competitive prices.
A positive trend is shown by various Chinese brands. According to the research firm YouGov, the Indonesian public is also starting to recognize many Chinese car brands and is showing curiosity.
However, a study conducted by the research firm YouGov reveals that Japanese cars still lead in terms of quality.
As many as 34 percent of respondents are said to associate Japan as the fastest-growing car manufacturer in the country.
“90 percent of people say Japanese car manufacturers are of good quality. Another 83 percent say they offer good value for money,” wrote the YouGov report, quoted Thursday (20/11).
Japanese cars are still a top choice for Indonesians considering buying a new car within the next three years.
When it comes to quality car manufacturers, more than 80 percent of respondents place Japan in the first position.
Following them are German manufacturers, who mostly sell luxury cars in Indonesia such as BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.
Then, automotive manufacturers from the United Kingdom are in third place. This includes brands like Mini and Range Rover.
In fourth place is the United States. One of the well-known brands from the US in Indonesia currently is Ford.
Fifth place is occupied by South Korea. Currently, there are two South Korean brands active in Indonesia, namely Hyundai and Kia.
Interestingly, China is in fifth place with a percentage of less than 60 percent. This means that products from China are considered not yet able to match the quality of brands from other countries, especially Japan.
Below them are Brazil, Mexico, and India. Their percentages are lower and below 40 percent.
Here are the 5 countries with quality car manufacturers according to a survey conducted in the period of September 17 - October 10, 2025. The respondents are Indonesians who plan to buy a car within a three-year period.
