KatadataOTO – GAC Aion has officially opened a new factory located in Purwakarta, West Java, Indonesia. This is their second factory in Southeast Asia after previously establishing one in Thailand.
The factory was built in collaboration with the Indomobil Group and is believed to be proof of their commitment to developing electric cars in the country. Especially since the development of EVs in Indonesia is currently very rapid.
“The factory will be built in several stages. For the first phase, the production total will be 20,000 units, and in the future, it can increase to 50,000 units per year,” said Wei Haigang, President of GAC International, to the media this afternoon (10/06).
With this calculation, it means the factory can produce three to five car units every hour.
The types of vehicles that can be produced are also diverse, ranging from sedans, SUVs, to MPVs. GAC and Indomobil will even meet market needs by introducing 7-seater vehicles.
“The first to be produced will be the Aion V, Hyptec HT, Y Plus, and one more model that cannot be announced yet,” said Andrew Nasuri, Director of Indomobil Group.
The choice of the Aion V as the first model was not without reason. The model is claimed to have successfully attracted customer interest and has now become the backbone of sales.
He also added that the Indomobil group has invested Rp 1 trillion to build this production facility.
“The investment we made is Rp 1 trillion. That is just for the factory and R&D for the factory's future development,” he added
The entire vehicle assembly has adopted the manufacturing system from GAC Aion's NEV Lighthouse Factories in China. With this, vehicle quality and operational efficiency can be ensured.
Not only that, the process of changing the production line can also be done very quickly. They claim it only takes about 30 minutes to do so, allowing all activities to run optimally.
“We have also met the 40 percent TKDN and employed 300 local people. With this, the vehicle prices can be even more competitive,” he concluded.
