The Aletra customer chose the top-tier model for several reasons, for example, the consideration of a much longer range.
KatadataOTO – Electric car models in Indonesia are becoming more diverse, especially towards the end of 2024. There are many newcomers, including Aletra, a company from the Geely group that develops cars specifically for the needs of Indonesian consumers.
Debuting at GJAW 2024 (Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week), PT Aletra Mobil Nusantara claims that their number of orders or SPK (Vehicle Order Letter) is estimated to exceed 300 units.
“We haven't received an update on the data from sales yet, as we are still conducting mall-to-mall exhibitions. But it's over 300, because at GJAW alone it was around 300,” said Christo Antyo, Product Manager of Aletra in South Jakarta, on Monday (13/1).
The majority of consumers are said to have chosen to buy the highest trim, the Aletra L8s. Even though the waiting period is slightly longer than the L8, which is June 2025.
The L8 trim itself was actually introduced as a complement for consumers who do not want to wait too long.
“This new battery (Short Blade Battery for the highest L8s trim) is launching in June 2024, which means we've only been in the development process for a few months, so we considered introducing a short (range) version using a battery from Gotion for a faster delivery in April,” explained Christo.
However, it turns out that consumers are willing to wait until June 2025 to get the highest trim of the Aletra L8.
“Indonesian people like to be prepared, even though they might not make a trip from Jakarta to Surabaya even once every two years (for example). The important thing is to have the 'weapon' or the vehicle,” said Djoko Purwanto, Technical Director of Aletra on the same occasion.
In the future, he hopes that the infrastructure or supporting ecosystem for electric vehicles, namely SPKLU (Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations), can continue to be developed.
This would minimize the fear among consumers about using electric cars even for long-distance travel.
“Perhaps in the future, we might try to move in that direction (SPKLU development), there have been some discussions,” Djoko affirmed.
For your information, Aletra has only introduced one model for the domestic market, the L8. There have been no detailed discussions about new products in Indonesia, but there are several candidates like the RL7 which was exhibited at GJAW 2024.
In terms of price, the tag is not much different from its rival, the BYD M6. Aletra is sold starting from Rp 435 million to Rp 488 million OTR (On The Road) Jakarta.
