Geely's Name Associated with Aletra L8 Electric Car, The Reason

Electric cars are gradually gaining popularity in Indonesia, as evidenced by the growing wholesale figures in 2024.
KatadataOTO – The adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia seems to be increasingly positive. This is seen by one of the manufacturers under the Geely umbrella, Aletra, which has just launched the L8 MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle), touted as a competitor to the BYD M6.
Although car sales figures in Indonesia have decreased, electric cars have actually seen an increase thanks to many factors. Such as competitive prices and many newcomers with competitive price tags.
Thus, many consumers are becoming interested in electric cars or EVs (Electric Vehicles). Aletra's order numbers also serve as a benchmark for the high consumer interest in environmentally friendly vehicles.
It should be noted that since its debut at the GJAW (Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week) event, Aletra has successfully secured around 700 SPK (Vehicle Order Letters).
“If you look at the details, people should do the math, the first thing is savings,” said Djoko Purwanto, Technical Director of Aletra in South Jakarta some time ago.
When it comes to electric car maintenance, the costs involved are indeed generally lower than for conventional vehicles. For example, there is no need for engine oil changes.
This becomes a separate consideration for prospective vehicle buyers. Moreover, electric cars are now claimed to be more comfortable and have competitive price tags.
“Secondly, of course, what's important is the environment. If you are environmentally conscious, want comfort, and then after calculating, it turns out (EVs) are cheap,” said Djoko.
He emphasized that the growth of electric car sales in the country reflects the growth of the electrification market, growing from 17,058 units throughout 2023 to 44,557 units in 2024.
“The public is starting to be open to BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles). In the past, they might have been afraid of new things,” said Christo Antyo, Product Manager of Aletra on the same occasion.
Christo revealed that driving range is one of the main considerations for consumers before deciding to buy an electric car.
For Aletra specifically, prospective buyers look at the overall value of the car, from driving range, design, to comfort, before finally deciding to make a purchase.
“What about the value. Is it comfortable, is the car good, is it pleasant to drive or not. The battery is perhaps a secondary concern, they ask more about the range,” said Christo.
For your information, Aletra offers the L8 and L8s electric cars with price tags ranging from Rp 415 million to Rp 458 million. The lowest type uses a battery from Gotion, while the power source for the L8s is supplied by Zhejiang Yoening Technology, which is the latest generation blade battery.
