ANCAP found that electric cars are safer than conventional vehicles during crash tests.

KatadataOTO – Although its growth is quite significant, many people still question the advantages of electric cars. Especially from a safety perspective, as the number of vehicles crash-tested is still limited.
However, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has found the answer. Of all the units they have tested, electric vehicles tend to be safer than conventional models.
Reported by Carscoops, ANCAP has tested at least 57 models, and only six did not achieve the maximum score. This means 89 percent of electric cars achieved high results.
Cars with a four-star safety rating include the BMW i4, Hyundai Kona Electric, Fiat 500e, Opel Mokka, and Citroen C4. Meanwhile, the Jeep Avenger is the only model to receive just three stars, and no model recorded 0 stars.
Meanwhile, for conventional cars, the number tested was much higher at 117 units, and 18 of them failed to achieve the maximum score. This means 85 percent of them were rated as having achieved good results.
However, there were some models that even received 0 stars, namely the Mahindra Scorpio and the MG 5. Then there was also the Suzuki Swift with only one star.
From a safety perspective, the difference between electric and conventional cars is actually not significant. However, it should be noted that most EVs are new models, so their safety technology tends to be more complete.
The price of electric vehicles also tends to be more expensive than conventional cars, so it is natural that their safety features are better.
It should be noted that electric vehicle sales are currently experiencing a significant increase in 2024. Based on data from Rho Motion, 17.1 million EVs were sold, an increase of 24 percent compared to the 2023 market.
Of that total, China was the country that contributed the most to the sales figures. They successfully delivered a recorded 11 million units.
Then there are the EU, EFTA, and the UK with total sales of 3 million units. The United States and Canada sold 18 million units.
While the rest of the world accounted for 1.3 million units.
