Suzuki's affordable electric car will target the same segment as the Wuling Air ev, reportedly launching in 2028.
KatadataOTO – Suzuki has various vehicle lineups with competitive price tags compared to similar models in the same segment. In the era of electrification, a number of Suzuki hybrid cars have become attractive options for consumers looking to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles.
In Indonesia, this Japanese brand with the S logo focuses on presenting hybrid technology LSUVs (Low Sport Utility Vehicle) and LMPVs (Low Multi Purpose Vehicle) with a price range of Rp 200 million to Rp 300 million.
Besides hybrid cars, this time Suzuki is reportedly preparing an affordable electric car to reach the same type of consumers.
The patent has been registered in India. The country is indeed Suzuki's largest market, so the affordable electric car will most likely debut there.
The affordable electric car from Suzuki is expected to go into mass production starting in 2028. Unfortunately, it is not yet known in which countries the Y2V will be launched.
It is strongly suspected that the final decision to produce the Y2V will still depend on various factors such as market demand, economic conditions, and production costs.
The Y2V is said to be Maruti Suzuki's strategy in facing the competition for affordable electric cars. In India, that segment is already enlivened by the MG Comet, a rebadge of the Wuling Air ev.
If it enters the Indonesian market, the Y2V could be considered a potential model, reflecting the high consumer interest in the compact EV, Wuling Air ev.
Most recently, the price of the lowest Wuling Air ev type even dropped to Rp 179.1 million, following the arrival of the newest Lite variant with a 300 km range.
In the same segment, Indonesia will also welcome a guest from Vietnam, namely the VinFast VF 3. The VF 3 electric car is rumored to debut in Indonesia at the IIMS 2025 event towards mid-February.
For your information, Suzuki has started to introduce its electrification lineup in the country. However, they are currently only selling mild hybrid models like the Ertiga Cruise and XL7.
But at the GIIAS 2024 event, for the first time, Suzuki brought the eVX, which is touted as the initial form of the e-Vitara, a first in Southeast Asia.
The Suzuki eVX concept electric car carries a high-tech and adventure theme, a blend of high technology and the character of an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) with a bold appearance.
