KatadataOTO – BYD has four EV (Electric Vehicle) models offered to Indonesian consumers, namely the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and M6. The Chinese manufacturer is also bringing its sub-brand Denza, targeting the premium class in early 2025.

However, it seems BYD has one more electric car that could potentially be offered at an affordable price, the Seagull. The model has been registered in Indonesia under the name Dolphin Mini.

It should be noted that a trademark registration is not a guarantee that the model will be launched in the near future. It could be done by the brand for study or development purposes.

Registered on the PDKI (Intellectual Property Database) page, the Dolphin Mini was filed by BYD Company Limited.

In its home country, the BYD Dolphin Mini is sold for 10,000 USD or equivalent to Rp 161.5 million, claimed to be the cheapest and best-selling electric car in China.

Meanwhile, in neighboring countries like Malaysia, the Dolphin Mini is sold for around RM 99,900, about Rp 367.7 million when converted to the rupiah exchange rate.

The BYD Dolphin Mini is smaller than the Dolphin currently marketed in Indonesia. The car's dimensions (L x W x H) are 3,780 mm x 1,715 mm x 1,580 mm.

For comparison, the Dolphin's dimensions are 4,290 mm x 1,770 mm x 1,570 mm, making it longer than the Dolphin Mini or Seagull.

In terms of design, the BYD Dolphin Mini has a different identity from its predecessor. Most noticeably, the headlights are much smaller and more minimalist, while at the rear, there is a full-width LED bar.

On the BYD Dolphin, the taillights have a distinctive pattern, differentiating it from the Seagull or Dolphin Mini.

Regarding the powertrain, the BYD Dolphin Mini uses a 30 kWh Blade Battery to support a journey of 300 km (NEDC) on a single charge. It produces 73 hp and a peak torque of 135 Nm.

However, if brought to Indonesia, its price tag will likely be above the cheapest electric car, the Wuling Air ev (starting from Rp 179.1 million). This is despite having a similar configuration, with a battery capacity of 17.3 kWh to 26.7 kWh, offering a range of 200 km-300 km.

However, if it utilizes government electric car incentives and is locally assembled, its price could become more competitive and could be another option for consumers who want a small EV with a modern design.
