KatadataOTO – PT ADM (Astra Daihatsu Motor) has built its second factory in Karawang, West Java. With the status of Plant Line 2, the facility will increase Daihatsu's domestic production capacity.

KAP 2 (Karawang Assembly Plant 2) is a manifestation of PT ADM's investment in Indonesia and supports its sustainability commitment.

In addition to a production capacity of 140 thousand units, this facility will be able to accommodate the assembly of environmentally friendly vehicle lines, including hybrid and electric cars.

One model that has the potential to be assembled locally is the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid. On several occasions, the unit has been exhibited directly to the public as an introduction.

However, Daihatsu is still reluctant to reveal the models that will be produced at KAP 2 in the future.

“We are certainly committed to contributing to carbon neutrality. We are heading in that direction, and more will be announced at the right time,” said Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing and Corporate Communication Director of PT ADM, when met in Jakarta some time ago.

The chances are quite high, considering the Rocky Hybrid uses a similar base to the conventional engine Daihatsu Rocky.

The Rocky is currently produced domestically. The car's TKDN (Local Component Level) had reached 70 percent as of 2021.

Agung emphasized that Daihatsu will continue to focus on bringing a product line with competitive pricing that can be enjoyed by first-time buyers.

“It will be (announced) at the best time, but the focus is on the first-car buyer. It's not just about the product, but the peace of mind factor when owning it, that's what Daihatsu prioritizes,” Agung affirmed.

He further revealed that the commitment to produce environmentally friendly vehicles at KAP 2 is part of PT ADM's long-term plan in Indonesia.

Therefore, Agung confirmed that certain models have already been prepared for the environmentally friendly vehicle segment.

“Regarding the lineup development, whether from Daihatsu or other brands we supply, everything has been prepared,” Agung explained.

For your information, the new Daihatsu factory, KAP 2, is equipped with various facilities including body and painting.

Using the latest technology, the Daihatsu factory can optimize production and help reduce carbon emissions by up to 20 percent.

Specifically, KAP 2 produces the Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya, and Toyota Wigo. Then, starting in May 2025, the assembly of the Toyota Avanza-Daihatsu Xenia will be moved to this facility.
