KatadataOTO – The Attorney General's Office has again confiscated assets belonging to Muhammad Riza Chalid, a suspect in a crude oil corruption case. This time, they secured four motor vehicles of various brands.
This means that nine of Riza Chalid's vehicles have now been successfully secured to be used as evidence.
“This confiscation is allegedly related to a money laundering case originating from the criminal act of corruption in the governance of crude oil and refinery products of PT Pertamina Subholding and Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) from 2018–2023,” stated Anang Supriatna, Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office.
He then explained that the four cars are a BMW sedan, a Toyota Rush, and two Mitsubishi Pajero Sport units. All were taken from several locations in Bekasi, West Java.
“So the vehicles were seized from several locations under the names of affiliated parties,” he said.
The affiliated parties, he said, are individuals who have a working relationship with Riza Chalid. He said this confiscation is an effort to recover state finances.
“Jampidsus investigators are not only pursuing the person concerned. We are also pursuing assets in order to recover state losses,” he said.
Previously, investigators had seized five cars allegedly belonging to Riza Chalid, namely a Toyota Alphard, a Mini Cooper, and three Mercedes-Benz sedans. In addition, investigators also seized a sum of money, in dollars, rupiah, and other foreign currencies.
It should be noted that Riza Chalid is one of the suspects in the alleged oil corruption case of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina Subholding and Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) from 2018–2023.
Riza Chalid's unlawful act was to agree to a lease cooperation for the Merak Fuel Tank Terminal. He allegedly intervened in PT Pertamina's governance policy by including a lease cooperation plan for the Merak Fuel Terminal, even though the state-owned enterprise did not yet require additional stock storage.
As a result, the state suffered losses of up to Rp 285 trillion.
