The Bali provincial government is partnering with South Korea to develop the electric vehicle industry for tourism.

KatadataOTO – The Provincial Government of Bali is ready to develop electric vehicles by collaborating with several companies from South Korea. It is hoped that this step can improve transportation in the region to be more environmentally friendly.
However, the development process will proceed in stages. This is because they are currently in the exploratory phase to determine the target market share and then build a factory.
“Together with Indonesian industry, we are building and developing Korean technologies to be used as equipment or vehicles that can be utilized, especially for tourism,” said IGW Samsi Gunarta, Head of the Bali Transportation Agency, as reported by Antara (26/06).
Because the collaboration is business-to-business, the Bali Transportation Agency has appointed Perumda Kerta Bali Saguna as the arm of the regional government. They will explore potential together with the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), Korea smart E-Mobility Association (KEMA), the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (AISMOLI), and PT. Inako Pratama Indonesia.
Interestingly, they will later focus on developing engines for tourism shuttles. Thus, it is hoped that the tourism sector in Bali will be more optimal.
The city of Yeonggwang-Gun in South Korea will serve as a benchmark because the area was initially an agricultural center but has now grown into an electricity industry hub.
Samsi also said that the city has a mandate from the Korean government to develop electric vehicle technology in its country.
In line with this, the Bali provincial government also has a Regional Action Plan (RAD) for the Acceleration of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles. Thanks to this, they have a clear planning pattern and only need partners for its development.
It cannot be denied that the development of EVs in the country is quite rapid. This is evidenced by the increasing number of companies investing in Indonesia.
Hyundai is one of the manufacturers that is quite aggressive in its development. The Kona Electric even has a local content level of over 80 percent because it uses domestically made batteries
