KatadataOTO – BYD continues to show its dominance. Especially in the global electric car market.
The Chinese brand has once again beaten Tesla in global Electric Vehicle (EV) sales.
Reporting from Carnewschina on Wednesday (08/10), BYD's cumulative pure electric car sales in the third quarter of 2025 showed a positive performance.
They successfully recorded 582,500 pure electric cars. Claimed to be up by 31.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Tesla in the third quarter of this year was far behind. They only reached 497,100 units.
Cumulatively since the beginning of this year, BYD has successfully sold 1.6 million electric car units worldwide as of September 2025.
Then, Tesla only recorded sales of 1.2 million EVs. So there is a difference of about 300 thousand units between the two manufacturers.
According to Carnewschina, BYD has successfully surpassed Tesla since last year. More precisely, in the fourth quarter of 2024.
"BYD has maintained its sales leadership for four consecutive quarters," wrote the online media.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research projects that BYD's dominance will continue until the end of the year.
The manufacturer from the Land of the Bamboo Curtain is projected to lead global electric car sales with a market share of up to 15.7 percent.
This strengthens their position at the top of the EV industry. Especially as the electric four-wheeled vehicle market is growing rapidly.
This condition allows BYD to become the top electric car seller in the world in 2025, seizing the title held by Tesla.
For your information, BYD's dominance is also felt in the Indonesian market. They have successfully sold thousands of EVs in the country.
Processing data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), BYD successfully topped the 10 best-selling electric car brands last month.
The Chinese manufacturer successfully recorded 2,746 units from dealer to consumer (retail sales) in August 2025.
Although slightly corrected from 2,827 in July 2025, they were not caught by their rivals. Such as Aion, which sits in second place.
On the other hand, cumulatively from January to August 2025, BYD's retail sales were at the level of 19,278 units.
This indicates that BYD's products are very popular with the people in Indonesia. Especially automotive enthusiasts in the country.
Moreover, their EV lineup is quite diverse. For example, the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and Sealion 7.
So consumers can choose one of these products. It just needs to be adjusted to the needs and financial capabilities of their potential customers.
