Government agencies and Embassies are reportedly interested in purchasing BYD, with the Seal being the most sought-after model.
KatadataOTO – BYD has just inaugurated one of their newest dealers in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta. The outlet is located in a strategic area and is close to several embassy offices.
The choice of location is not without reason. BYD revealed that their electric cars have indeed started to attract interest from government agencies and embassies.
“The demand from the government is quite significant, including ambassadors who are starting to consider BYD as operational vehicles,” said Suwandy, Country General Manager of BYD Harmony Auto Indonesia in Jakarta, Saturday (15/03).
According to Suwandy, sedans are still often the main choice for government agencies for mobility purposes.
Besides the Seal and Sealion 7, the BYD M6 MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) has also received attention and orders from the government.
Unfortunately, Suwandy was reluctant to reveal more about the parties who made the purchases. However, he confirmed that many embassies are interested, one of which is the Embassy of China.
“Usually, the highest demand was for the Seal, and now the Sealion 7 as well,” said Suwandy.
Interestingly, according to him, several European embassies are starting to become interested in using environmentally friendly vehicles from BYD. The Seal is the main choice because it is a sedan.
For your information, BYD currently offers five models for the Indonesian market: the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, M6, and Sealion 7.
The presence of new models is expected to continue to help boost BYD's sales in Indonesia and provide more EV (Electric Vehicle) options for consumers.
“Our expectation (BYD Harmony) is to exceed 100 units (in sales) per month, for Jakarta. It's not something impossible, it has already been achieved at other (BYD) dealers,” Suwandy affirmed.
The Sealion 7, recently launched at IIMS 2025, is described as the SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) version of the Seal sedan. The price is not much different, offered starting from Rp 600 million.
BYD's premium sub-brand, Denza, also made its debut this year, bringing one product, the D9 luxury MPV. The model is touted to be another strong competitor in its class, like the Toyota Alphard.
