KatadataOTO – A number of electric car factories in Indonesia will soon be operational. One of them belongs to BYD in Subang, West Java.
The construction progress of the production facility is still ongoing. It is even claimed to be on schedule and has received a lot of support.
“Currently, the construction progress of our factory is still on track. Input and opinions from the relevant authorities, the Indonesian government, are also very supportive of our factory's development,” said Eagle Zhao, President Director of BYD Motor Indonesia in Sentul, Bogor some time ago.
The BYD executive is optimistic that the construction of their factory can be completed quickly. And finished by the end of this year.
Then their facility can start producing the BYD Atto 1, Seal, and Sealion 7 in the first quarter of 2026.
This decision is part of BYD's commitment to increasing competitiveness and strengthening its dominance in the Indonesian market.
A similar sentiment was also expressed by Luther T. Panjaitan, Head of Public & Government Relations at BYD Motor Indonesia. Unfortunately, he could not yet reveal the first model to be assembled in Subang.
“We have not yet been able to determine the model that will be produced first. But the general principle is that cars with a significantly dominant sales volume are usually chosen for domestic production,” said Luther.
Luther also explained that there are several products with high demand. Such as the BYD Atto 1, M6, and Sealion 7.
On the other hand, the update on the construction of BYD's production facility is a breath of fresh air. It signals that they are getting closer to producing electric cars locally.
Thus, it can absorb a lot of labor. Especially for the people in the Subang area, West Java, and its surroundings.
“The production capacity (of the BYD factory) is 150,000 per year,” said Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, on a separate occasion.
The presence of the BYD factory in the country is indeed very important. Considering their national market sales average 10 thousand per month.
Automatically, the presence of this production facility is believed to be able to meet all consumer demands.
So, it is worth waiting to see when the BYD factory can start operating. And then produce environmentally friendly four-wheeled vehicles.
Furthermore, it will have an impact on the automotive industry. And then affect the economic sector in the country.
