KatadataOTO – Automotive giant BYD recorded positive achievements throughout 2024. In its home country, BYD's retail sales reached 3.7 million units, surpassing Tesla which had to settle for 657.1 thousand units.

However, it should be noted that BYD's sales are a combination of pure electric cars and PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles). Meanwhile, Tesla focuses solely on BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles).

Reporting from CnEVPost, a team of analysts from Deutsche Bank projects that BYD will sell 5.1 million units in 2025. The breakdown is sub-brand Denza with 250 thousand units, Fang Cheng Bao with 160 thousand units, and Yangwang with 7,500 units.

Meanwhile, in other markets outside of China, its sales figures could reach 800 thousand units this year. This increase is predicted to be driven by the many new products that will be introduced with competitive price tags throughout 2025.

Deutsche Bank also revealed that BYD plans to introduce new models in the SUV and sedan segments, namely the Tang L SUV and Han L, in the first quarter of 2024.

In Indonesia itself, it seems BYD will also become a strong competitor for many other manufacturers, including Chinese brands.

The latest data in November 2024 shows the BYD M6 MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) successfully entered the ranks of best-selling cars with wholesale figures reaching 1,770 units, even surpassing LCGCs (Low Cost Green Cars) like the Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla.

Meanwhile, in terms of retail sales, BYD is the sixth best-selling brand. Total sales from January-November 2024 reached 11,654 units, despite only debuting in Indonesia in early 2024.

Currently, they offer four models in different segments. Starting from the BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and M6. This year, there is a chance they will introduce new models, especially considering that several products have already had their patents registered in the country.

Besides the luxury MPV Denza D9, another model strongly suspected is the Song L DM-i PHEV. If it arrives, it will be the first hybrid car from BYD in Indonesia.

Having launched in China, the Song L could be an alternative to the Atto 3 with hybrid technology and a slightly larger size. The dimensions (L x W x H) of the Song L are 4,780 mm x 1,898 mm x 1,670 mm.

BYD's new product lineup in Indonesia will fill competitive segments. Therefore, it is not impossible for them to record positive results or even experience rapid growth this year.
