KatadataOTO – BYD sales surpassed Tesla and it successfully became the largest manufacturer in Europe in April 2025. This is the first time the electric car producer from China has taken the lead on the blue continent.

According to Reuters, BYD successfully sold at least 7,231 electric car units in Europe. That number is slightly ahead of Tesla, which only managed to sell 7,165 units throughout April 2025.

Jato Dynamics, a data provider company, revealed that demand for Tesla has indeed started to weaken. This is due to an aging product lineup and negative sentiment towards Elon Musk's political movements.

"This is a significant moment for the European automotive sector, considering Tesla has led the electric vehicle market for several years. Meanwhile, BYD only began operating outside of Norway and the Netherlands at the end of 2022," said Felipe Munoz, a global analyst at Jato Dynamics, as reported by Reuters (22/05).

Not only that, the demand for electric vehicles in Europe, which is usually stable, suddenly surged by 28 percent since April of last year. This was largely driven by Chinese brands.

Although Europe imposed tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, demand still increased by 59 percent compared to April 2024. Meanwhile, manufacturers from Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the United States only grew by 26 percent.

BYD Becomes the Best-Selling Electric Car Manufacturer in Indonesia

Not only in Europe, BYD has also become the largest electric car manufacturer in Indonesia. This is evident from Gaikindo data, which shows their retail sales have reached 8,894 units, capturing a market share of 3.3 percent.

Meanwhile, BYD's wholesales cannot be underestimated. Despite relying only on electric cars, in the first four months of 2025, they have shipped 9,214 units, or 3.6 percent of the total national market.

That achievement is enough to place them in the sixth position of best-selling manufacturers in Indonesia.

To maintain its position, BYD has begun aggressively launching new products to meet market needs. Its newest unit is the Seal 2025, which was recently introduced.

The model is equipped with the DiSus Intelligent Body Control System (DiSus System) suspension, which is designed to reduce shocks and improve driving comfort.
