BYD Seagull's Presence Nears, New Rival for Wuling BinguoEV

KatadataOTO – The electric car BYD Seagull is rumored to be coming soon. Recently, the Chinese manufacturer shared a teaser of the Seagull through their official social media.

The post shows a silhouette strongly believed to be the compact electric car, the BYD Seagull.

Salespeople have also started offering pre-orders to consumers. It is highly likely that the BYD Seagull will launch at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) automotive exhibition held this month.

“If you're interested, you can (book it), it's only Rp 20 million (booking fee),” said a BYD salesperson when contacted by KatadataOTO some time ago.

Regarding the price, it is mentioned that the figure is in the range of Rp 200 million to Rp 300 million, placing it above the compact electric car, the Wuling Air ev.

In terms of size, the BYD Seagull has the potential to compete with the Wuling BinguoEV, which is currently sold for between Rp 301 million and Rp 345 million depending on the variant.

If it comes to Indonesia, the BYD Seagull could be a new option for an affordable, compact-sized electric car. Suitable for urban use.

For your information, the BYD Seagull is touted as one of the cheapest electric cars on the global market. In China, its price is around 10,000 USD or about Rp 161.5 million in rupiah.

The car, also known as the Dolphin Mini, has smaller dimensions than the Dolphin, with a length of 3,780 mm, a width of 1,715 mm, and a height of 1,580 mm.

The arrival of the BYD Seagull in Indonesia was first heard of in early 2025. At that time, the manufacturer registered the name Dolphin Mini on the PDKI (Intellectual Property Database) page by BYD Company Limited.

However, over time it became known that the electric car will enter the country using the name Seagull, as offered by BYD salespeople.

The BYD Seagull is equipped with a 30 kWh capacity battery. On a single charge, the car is claimed to be able to travel 300 km (based on NEDC testing).

Meanwhile, the embedded electric motor enables the BYD Seagull to produce 73 hp and a peak torque of 135 Nm.
