KatadataOTO – The automotive brand from China, Changan, has officially started selling its vehicle lineup in Indonesia at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week or GJAW 2025.

Changan markets its vehicles under the Indomobil Group banner. In addition to its commitment to local assembly, the manufacturer also intends to create new job opportunities for domestic workers.

“Within three years, there will be 1,000 local jobs and we will strengthen the localization of human resources in Indonesia,” said Zhou Qing, Vice President of Changan South East Asia Business Unit in Jakarta, Wednesday (17/11).

Qing explained that Indonesia is one of the largest automotive markets in Southeast Asia and is an important base for production and exports.

Therefore, the company has a long-term plan to operate in Indonesia, while also helping to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.

In addition to creating local jobs, Changan is said to intend to build a Research and Development (R&D) center specifically for the Southeast Asia region in the future.

This will also be used to support the development of Changan's vehicle lineup in Indonesia.

In addition, Qing emphasized that Changan's plan to establish more than 20 dealers in Indonesia is expected to be achieved by 2026.

“Our focus is still on major cities like Jakarta, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. The target is for our network to have 100 outlets by 2030,” Qing affirmed.

Speaking of local assembly, it seems Changan is utilizing the facilities owned by the Indomobil Group.

It is known that Changan's vehicle lineup enters Indonesia without a Completely Built Up (CBU) or fully imported scheme.

All units delivered to consumers are planned to be Completely Knocked Down (CKD) or locally assembled.

“We will build Changan's position as a premium brand and create a new image,” said Qing.

For your information, Changan will market two electric vehicle models in Indonesia. The first model is the compact Electric Vehicle (EV), Lumin.

The other is the Deepal S07 crossover SUV. This model uses the same base as the Mazda EZ-60 and will reportedly be brought in by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI) in 2026.
