Chery Group reveals the secret to developing safety features in every product they sell.
By Adi Hidayat
KatadataOTO – Chery Group has successfully become one of the manufacturers with the most models receiving five-star safety ratings from various testing agencies. Impressively, at least 54 vehicles have achieved this.
This large number demonstrates Chery Group's commitment to developing safe vehicles for its customers. This is also a source of pride, as public awareness of safety has been increasing.
“Safety standards have become increasingly high in recent decades. The minimum limit is sufficient, but we are committed to providing more to achieve safety beyond that,” said Jochen Tueting, Vehicle Attribute Development, Prototype Planning and Build.
To achieve this, they have embedded various safety features for customers. One of them is the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which functions to prevent accidents.
“Our priority is to prevent accidents from happening, and that can be done by embedding ADAS. But when an incident is unavoidable, the car will focus on reducing speed to minimize the impact as much as possible,” he said.
Not only that, the car also uses a structure and materials that have undergone various calculations. Its function is to prevent casualties, especially for the driver and passengers.
“The vehicle's structure is designed so that the energy from a collision can be absorbed and directed in various directions. In a frontal collision, this force can be channeled to the A-pillar and then redirected to the rear,” he added.
They are also developing airbags to be more optimal than before. This step is important because the feature has been proven to protect the driver and passengers when an accident occurs.
“No two accidents can be compared, so we provide protection at all corners of the cabin. We have developed 20 airbags to act as a shield during an incident, and all can deploy optimally within 0.001 seconds, faster than the blink of an eye,” he added.
Jochen Tueting also revealed that in developing driving safety, his team considers the ease of evacuation.
“After an accident occurs, evacuation becomes very important. We designed the car doors to unlock automatically so that victims can be evacuated quickly,” he said.
In addition, the hazard lights will also turn on automatically so that other road users can be more alert when passing by.
