KatadataOTO – The electric car Chery J6 is one of the flagship models for PT CSI (Chery Sales Indonesia) at the moment. The boxy SUV has received a positive response from consumers in the country.

In fact, a representative from PT CSI revealed that retail sales (dealer to consumer) have reached around 2,600 units since its initial launch.

Chery has completed deliveries to the first 2,000 customers this year. However, if you place an order now, buyers will have to be extra patient as the waiting list extends until May 2025.

“The J6 has nearly 2,600 retail units. It's quickly catching up (to the Omoda E5). The waiting list is more or less similar (to the Tiggo Cross),” said Budi Darmawan, Sales Director of PT CSI in Jakarta some time ago.

For comparison, retail sales of Chery's first electric car, the Omoda E5, have exceeded 4,000 units.

According to Budi, there are several things that make the Chery J6 popular with consumers. One of them is its boxy body design, which is still rare in the domestic SUV segment.

Furthermore, the Chery J6 can handle off-road terrain that is not too extreme, but is claimed to be sufficient to accommodate customer needs.

“It's the only EV SUV that can be taken off-road, although it's not for heavy off-roading. For example, in flooded areas,” said Budi.

The J6 is also considered capable for driving through areas with less-than-ideal road conditions, especially outside of Jakarta.

This has also made the J6 popular with consumers outside of Java. The sales contribution for the J6 outside of Jakarta is claimed to be 40 percent.

“Indeed, there is a new phenomenon where EVs are being accepted outside of major cities like Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, and Makassar,” said Budi.

In terms of sales composition, 20 percent of consumers choose the RWD (rear-wheel drive) type. While the rest buy the IWD (intelligent wheel drive) or all-wheel drive variant.

The Phantom variant, modified with an all-black exterior, has also received a positive response from consumers.

“The J6 is very modifiable; in China, there are many modification components. We also plan to release a new modified version,” he revealed.

For your information, the Chery J6 in Indonesia is offered in four types. The price ranges from IDR 505.5 million to IDR 608 million on the road in Jakarta.
